Born outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Brad Ascalon was immersed in a world of art and design. His grandfather was a Hungarian-born sculptor and noted industrial designer. His father is the founder and principal of Ascalon Studios Inc., an art and design firm dedicated to the creation of large-scale artwork and furnishings that can be found throughout North America.
With his main focus on furniture design, Ascalon received his Masters’ degree from Pratt Institute’s department of Industrial Design in 2005. While working towards his degree at Pratt Institute, Ascalon held a number of design internships, including one at the design studio of Karim Rashid. That same year, Ascalon was selected by Wallpaper* Magazine as one of the world’s “Ten Most Wanted” up and coming designers (July/August 2005).
Upon obtaining his degree, Ascalon immediately opened his own design studio when he acquired his first client, the cosmetics giant, L’Oreal. Since then, Ascalon continues to develop product and packaging designs for a wide range of companies and industries, while continuing to apply most of his energy and passion towards furniture. In 2007, Ascalon’s work made its first appearance at Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile, with the Italian manufacturer, Sintesi, as well as at the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York City. There Ascalon unveiled a new seating collection as part of the ICFF Bernhardt Studio Design Exhibition, a high-profile juried competition that promotes emerging furniture designers from around the world. In Early 2008, Ascalon completed his first project for Ligne Roset, an occasional table called Spindle. Ascalon is only the second American designer ever to work with the 150-year-old company.
Ascalon's studio, Brad Ascalon Studio NYC, engages in design and consultation for clients around the world within various industries, from large-scale manufacturers to smaller start-ups to private residentials and commercial projects.
